India Crush Sri Lanka by 302 Runs, Enter Semi-Finals with 14 points from seven matches. Sri Lanka were eliminated from the tournament with four points from seven matches.

Player of the Match

Mohammed Shami of India was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance. He took five wickets for 18 runs in five overs and helped India bowl out Sri Lanka for 55 runs, their lowest total in World Cup history.

India Innings

India won the toss and opted to bat first. They got off to a solid start as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 79 runs for the first wicket. Sharma was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka for four runs in the second over, but Gill continued to play fluently and reached his half-century in the 15th over. He was well supported by Virat Kohli, who also scored a fifty and shared a 153-run partnership with Gill for the second wicket. Kohli was dismissed by Madushanka for 88 runs off 94 balls, which included 11 fours. Shreyas Iyer then joined Gill and accelerated the scoring rate with some aggressive hitting. He scored 82 runs off 56 balls, with three fours and six sixes. He also completed a century partnership with Gill, who scored his maiden World Cup hundred in the 40th over. Gill was finally out for 92 runs off 92 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes. He was caught by Pathum Nissanka off Madushanka, who took his third wicket of the innings. KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami also contributed with some quick runs in the final overs, as India posted a huge total of 357 for eight in 50 overs. Madushanka was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with five wickets for 80 runs in 10 overs.

Sri Lanka Innings

Chasing a massive target of 358, Sri Lanka had a disastrous start as they lost both their openers Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne for ducks in the first over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama also fell cheaply, as Sri Lanka slumped to 12 for four in the fifth over. Charith Asalanka and Angelo Mathews tried to steady the innings, but they could not cope with the pace and accuracy of Mohammed Siraj, who dismissed them both in his first two overs. Siraj then struck again to remove Dushan Hemantha for a duck, as Sri Lanka collapsed to 25 for seven in the ninth over. Dushmantha Chameera also fell without scoring, as Mohammed Shami joined the party and took his first wicket of the match. Maheesh Theekshana and Kasun Rajitha showed some resistance and added 23 runs for the ninth wicket, the highest partnership of the innings. Theekshana scored 12 runs off 23 balls, with two fours, while Rajitha scored 14 runs off 17 balls, with two fours. They were both dismissed by Shami, who completed his five-wicket haul and wrapped up the innings in the 20th over. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 55 runs in 19.4 overs, their lowest total in World Cup history and the second-lowest in ODI history. Shami was the pick of the bowlers for India with five wickets for 18 runs in five overs, while Siraj took three wickets for 16 runs in seven overs.
