Pakistan cruise to a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh

Pakistan secured their first win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as they defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. Pakistan chased down a target of 205 runs in 32.3 overs, thanks to fifties from Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, and Saud Shakeel. Mohammad Wasim Jr was the star of the show, taking four wickets and scoring an unbeaten 28 to earn the Player of the Match award.

Bangladesh post 204 all out

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first, hoping to put up a challenging total on a pitch that was expected to assist spinners. However, they lost their openers early, as Liton Das was caught by Abdullah Shafique off Shaheen Afridi for 11 and Tanzid Hasan was caught by Fakhar Zaman off Mohammad Wasim Jr for 9. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan then added 56 runs for the third wicket, before Shanto was caught by Babar Azam off Iftikhar Ahmed for 32.

Bangladesh’s middle order failed to capitalize on the platform, as they lost Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in quick succession. Towhid Hridoy and Taskin Ahmed then added some resistance with a 41-run partnership for the eighth wicket, but both fell to Mohammad Wasim Jr in consecutive overs. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 204 in 45.1 overs. For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim Jr took four wickets, while Shaheen Afridi and Iftikhar Ahmed took two each.

Pakistan chase down the target with ease

Pakistan’s chase was off to a solid start, Fakhar Zaman reached his half-century off 54 balls, and hit 7 sixes and marked 81 run on 74 balls and out c Towhid Hridoy b Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Babar Azam scored 9 runs in 16 runs c Mahmudullah b Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Abdullah Shafique scored 68 run in 69 balls. Pakistan chased down 205 in just 32.3 overs.
