Player Of The Match

Rassie van der Dussen of South Africa was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant innings of 133 runs off 118 balls, which included nine fours and five sixes. He shared a 197-run partnership with Quinton de Kock for the second wicket and helped South Africa post a mammoth total of 357 for 4.

South Africa Innings

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. They got off to a flying start as de Kock and Temba Bavuma added 79 runs in the first 10 overs. De Kock reached his century in the 28th over and looked set for a big score, but he was dismissed by Trent Boult for 114 off 116 balls. Van der Dussen then took charge and accelerated the scoring rate with some powerful hitting. He reached his hundred in the 44th over and continued to punish the New Zealand bowlers till the end. He was finally out in the last over, but not before taking South Africa past 350. David Miller also chipped in with a quickfire 53 off 30 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram added some finishing touches.

South Africa scored 357 for 4 in 50 overs, their highest total in World Cup history. They also hit a record 18 sixes in their innings, surpassing their previous best of 16 against Zimbabwe in 2015. Boult was the most successful bowler for New Zealand with two wickets, while Tim Southee and James Neesham took one each.

New Zealand Innings

Chasing a huge target of 358, New Zealand lost their opener Devon Conway in the second over, caught behind off Marco Jansen. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra tried to rebuild the innings, but they both fell in quick succession to leave New Zealand at 54 for 3 in the 12th over. Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham also failed to make an impact, as they were dismissed by Kagiso Rabada and Gerald Coetzee respectively. Glenn Phillips was the only batsman who showed some resistance, as he scored a fighting 60 off 50 balls, with four fours and four sixes. However, he did not get much support from the lower order, as Keshav Maharaj ran through the tail with four wickets. New Zealand were bowled out for 167 in 35.3 overs, losing by a huge margin of 190 runs.
